MoclĂn, a historic town in southern Spain, around a short drive from Granada, is the inspiring location for this painting holiday. Artists of every skill level – even beginners – will learn how to plan and create modern art. Part of the schedule will be spent outdoors, working on guided exercises out in nature. These sketches and watercolour studies will then be developed in the studio, with guests completing multiple abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be displayed in the local community. Participants has exclusive access of the venue, which is built around an central patio and has a rooftop with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The cost covers five days’ painting tuition; full board; and an excursion to the local castle and other local sights.

This Mediterranean cooking retreat, set on a riverside villa in the inland Algarve, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Attendees will master the art of selection of small dishes, take part in a falafel-making workshop, refine brunch dishes such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses such as spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. There are visits to the local market and a local vineyard to sample local vintages, along with free time for walks by the Funcho River, to unwind on the terrace or swim in the infinity pool. The villa, a renovated rural property, has multiple rooms, plus safari tents in the grounds.

Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an uplifting, welcoming three-day dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The format throughout the camp is a party-style warm-up session, then three hour-and-a-half classes teaching various street dance styles, then an hour-long jam to demonstrate new moves. Dancers are split into groups based on ability and experience, so it is suitable for those who are brand new to popping and locking, all the way to experienced performers or instructors. The camp does not provide accommodation but there are a number of hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is 23-35 minutes by rail into London.

St Ives is the perfect spot for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will learn traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at composing original ones. The schedule includes vocal warmups, breathing exercises, stagecraft advice and a final evening concert. The holiday is held in a country house overlooking St Ives Bay. All meals are included, such as a Cornish cream tea on arrival, breakfast options, lunches to go and three-course dinners. Grog, unfortunately, is not provided. Author and tutor Greg Mosse leads the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He covers topics including plot, character development, locations and tension, to sending manuscripts to agents. Greg’s wife, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will participate in special sessions at the start and finish of the retreat. The holiday is held at a village-style hotel in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – ten private accommodations surround a central garden with a pool (non-writing partners are welcome to come along). The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs covering sustainability: from wildlife gardening to upcycling. This weekend course will help participants get to grips with the fundamentals of apiary management, study the life cycle of honeybees and learn about their environmental benefits. It is aimed at produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”. This course is also a chance to de-stress in the organization's carefully maintained woodlands, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and uncommon bird species. These recently launched summer sailing weekends are spent on dinghies and keelboats on the Blackwater estuary.
